About 3 years ago, K TWO launched the Family Tree Boxed set which included a storage file for documents and certificates, a note book to take out and about, and a lovely, large box to store memorabilia, photos and even more papers...
This proved really popular and we received some great feedback over the years. However, we do listen to constructive advice, and gradually we came to the decision to adapt the Family Tree product – make it smaller and more ‘user friendly’ – and one that’s easier to store. With this in mind, our Design team set to work producing the new and improved Family Tree which has just been launched this Autumn.
The process for getting to a new product launch is a story in itself!
Firstly we create mood boards every season, capturing current trends, colours, graphics and the latest product inventions. Our office walls are filled with inspiring photos and articles which really brighten up our days and we use these as inspiration when designing new covers and page designs. We often meet as a team and hammer-out product ideas, all putting our penny-worth in, and from here we literally sketch out our ideas for usability picking out the best features. We’ll then draw up a specification for our suppliers to make up samples for us to test further and take to the next stage. Our samples are really put through the mill and assessed in the market place. We’ll test these by sending them out to ‘real’ people for their feedback on the look, quality, usability and cost of the product. We look at lots of different cover options often taking a vote on the most popular design!
The final stage is production, and quality is of paramount importance at K TWO. We’re lucky to have fabulous suppliers who appreciate this! They really understand the importance and value of beautiful finishing and high quality paper and printing.
It’s such a thrill when we open boxes of production samples and see the finished product in the K TWO Design studio. With lots of yelps of delight and shouts of ‘it’s gorgeous!’, we all get so excited (all very embarrassing), but it’s great to see the finished article after so many months of planning. Then it’s over to you, and we get equally excited about our product launch and how it’ll be received in the market. What is most rewarding for us is seeing our customers genuinely enjoying using our products. We get so many kind and complimentary comments and this makes the whole process rewarding and worthwhile.
We describe the new Family Tree as ‘bookshelf beautiful’ because it’s compact and easy to store on a shelf; but in addition, it’s fit for purpose, and looks gorgeous too. With so many useful features, we really think this product will make the growing interest in researching family histories an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
